- DIMAPUR — Commemorating
National Road Safety Month, which is being observed from January 1 to the 31st,
awareness programme on road safety was held Wednesday at Niuland town hall on
the theme ‘Parwaah Karenge, Surakshit Rahenge’ (Will take care to stay safe).
- Delivering the keynote address, the deputy commissioner of
Niuland, Sara S Jamir, emphasised on measures that are to be taken to avoid
road accidents and encouraged everyone to abide by the traffic rules and
regulations.
- It stated that various departments made presentations on
several relevant topics such as ‘Good Samaritan,’ ‘Hit and run case,’
‘Enforcement of traffic laws and rules under Motor Vehicle Act,’ ‘Registration
of vehicles,’ ‘Road safety and training on first aid treatment,’ CPR, Dos and
Don’ts at the time of accident.
- The programme was followed by free eye check-up lead by the
chief medical officer (CMO) of Niuland and distribution of free first aid kits
to 50 drivers by District Road Safety Committee.
- In another programme, office of the District Transport
Office (DTO), Zunheboto, in collaboration with the office of the additional
deputy commissioner (ADC), Aghunato, organised a one-day awareness programme on
road safety on Wednesday at Dobashi Court (DB) in Aghunato town.
- The awareness programme was held as part of the National
Road Safety Month.
- Speaking on road safety, Hukayi Awomi, ARTO, emphasised on
the importance of various rules and regulations to prevent road accidents. He
also dwelled on obeying road safety rules and cautious driving to ensure safety
of the passengers, pedestrians and drivers.
- The ADC of Aghunato, D Robin, welcomed the participants
during the programme, while N Nchumbemo Kikon, AEI, chaired the programme.
- The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by
Albert Achumi, ATC.
