Kohima, Nov. 27 (EMN): Unlike in the past, the Kohima Chambers of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) is planning to make the 10-day long Hornbill Night Carnival plastic-free and ensure that persons with disabilities (PWDs) do not face any problems by providing a separate platform and a ramp for them near control room, Old NST.
Members of KCCI, organisers of the carnival, said this at a press conference on Wednesday. The event will also include entertainment and theme nights on all days to provide upcoming artists a platform to showcase their talent.
KCCI president Medozhatuo Rutsa said that cultural night will be observed on day-2, wherein all stall owners and revellers have to wear at least one item of their traditional attire, with an aim to promote Naga culture. The KCCI and KMC will also jointly organise inter-ward choral competition on day-3.
Rutsa said that food stall owners have been directed to sell their items at market rate and to put up menu board for visitors.
A total of 180 stalls have been permitted in different categories. On an average, KCCI receives about 200-300 applicants every year. However, priorities are given to young up-coming local entrepreneurs, said Akhrie-ü Mor, general secretary of KCCI. About 80-90% of the stalls are run by local entrepreneurs, she added.
Apart from government securities, the organisers will also deploy 30 volunteers to monitor the event. They will also inspect every night to ensure that the stall owners maintain sanitation and segregate waste.
The night carnival will be held from Y Jn (Old MLA hostel) to Razhü Point and parking space will be allotted at the local ground. The organisers have also invited everyone to take part in the event, especially in competitions.
