- DIMAPUR — Governor
of Assam, Lakshman Prasad Acharya; Union minister of Railways, Information and
Broadcasting and Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw; and
Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Friday jointly inaugurated
the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT)
Deemed to be University at 12 locations including 5 locations in northeastern
states.
- NIELIT Deemed to be University, the only university under
the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), was dedicated
to the nation during an event held in Guwahati.
- With its main campus at Ropar (Punjab) and eleven
constituent units located in Aizawl, Agartala, Aurangabad, Calicut, Gorakhpur,
Imphal, Itanagar, Kekri, Kohima, Patna, and Srinagar, NIELIT Deemed to Be
University aims to revolutionise higher education in digital technologies.
- The university offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Ph.D.
programmes in advanced and emerging fields including artificial intelligence,
machine learning, blockchain technology, industry 4.0, semiconductor design and
manufacturing, automotive electronics, drone technology, cyber security and
forensics, bio-informatics and many more.
- An update from NIELIT stated that the course curriculum has
been meticulously designed in collaboration with industry leaders to ensure
students acquire skills aligned with market demands, making them job-ready from
day one.
- Speaking at the launch programme, Ashwini Vaishnav
emphasised the government's commitment to transforming India into a leading hub
for semiconductor manufacturing, artificial intelligence, cyber security and
industry 4.0.
- He has termed the North East to “New Engine” to lead the
development and growth of the country. He further informed that the new campus
of NIELIT would be developed in Jagiroad near Gauwahati, which would focus on
semiconductor manufacturing and electronics manufacturing.
