Niathu Sports Festival begins

Staff Reporter Dimapur, November 20 The three-day Niathu Sports Festival 2014, hosted by Niathu Resort and organized by Niathu Privilege Club, got underway Thursday at Niathu Resort, Chumukedima, Dimapur under the theme ‘unity through sports.’ The sports festival, organised annually by the Niathu Privilege Club as part of club’s initiatives under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes, aim to promote sports and create a platform for the talented youngsters of the region to showcase their talents. Gracing the opening ceremony as the chief guest was Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya, who lauded the efforts of the Niathu Privilege Club for organizing such sporting events and grooming the youngsters for bigger responsibilities greater participation in the field of sports. Such an effort can also be a step to foster unity and better understanding amongst the people, added Acharya. Parliamentary secretary for youth resources and sports, Khriehu Liezietsu was the guest of honour. Member of Parliament, Neiphiu Rio who is the chief host of the sports festival was also present in the opening ceremony, besides minister for industries & commerce G. Kaito Aye and MLA Dr. Neiphriezo Keditsu. Altogether 400 participants from the state and other parts of NE are taking part in the 3 day sports festival. They will be vying in 6 events, namely; badminton, tennis, volleyball, TSD motor rally, cycling and billiards and snooker. Special events such as children’s carnival, food courts, on-spot art competition, on-spot dance competition are also being held. The sports festival will culminate on November 22 with chief minister TR Zeliang as chief guest and member of parliament Neiphiu Rio as the chief host.
