DIMAPUR — The Deputy Commissioner of Kohima has ordered the temporary closure of a section of National Highway-29 at Chainage KM 175.350 near the old KMC dumping site after it was declared unfit for vehicular movement.

According to the order issued on Tuesday, the affected portion of the highway was thoroughly assessed by the concerned authorities and found unsafe for public use. In the interest of public safety, the stretch will remain closed to all forms of vehicular traffic with immediate effect until further notice.

The administration has notified alternative routes for different categories of vehicles. Light motor vehicles (LMVs) have been diverted via Jotsoma Bypass Road. Heavy vehicles, district-bound vehicles, military and paramilitary vehicles, as well as compact and mid-size pick-up vehicles, along with all types of heavy and mid-size commercial passenger vehicles, will be routed through the Peducha Bridge–Tsiesema (10 Mile Road).
