Kohima, July 12 (EMN): Five days after a portion of National Highway-29 in Kohima sank after a landslide and cut off vehicular traffic on said stretch of the highway, restoration works are in progress but authorities on Thursday were unable to say when the road would be open for regular traffic.
On Thursday, the secretary for Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) Rovilatuo Mor along with other officials visited the site to inspect the ongoing work.
A stretch of the old road has sunk precipitated by the landslide, and fresh cutting of road for about 100 metres was necessitated. The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of Kohima, in collaboration with the Public Works department (national highways), has undertaken the restoration work.
Traffic remained closed on the stretch of road. Vehicles travelling to and from Kohima are being diverted to the alternative routes.
