Dimpaur, July 22 (EMN): Landslide at Viswema village on National Highway 29 resulting in complete cut-off NH-29 affecting not only Southern Angami villages but also the neighbouring state of Manipur was restored today.
It may be mentioned here that massive landslide had occurred in Viswema village on National Highway 29 on July 14 following incessant monsoon rain in the last couple of weeks. The unprecedented landslide in the area had completely cut off road connectivity with other Angami villages and neighbouring Manipur State.

Following the unprecedented development, Er. Kropol Vitsu, MLA, visited the landslide area on July 22 to take stock of the situation. He thanked the PWD, DC, SDO (Civil) Jakhama, police personnel, BRO and everyone for their selfless contributions in restoring the National Highway. Other officials present at the site were Principal Secretary of Medical, SDO (Civil) Jakhama, Office In-Charge of Khuzama Police Station, village chairmen of Viswema and Khuzama.
President of Viswema Youth Organisation (VYO), Visakho Kiso, informed that travellers have started crossing through the newly built road by foot on Saturday.
Earlier, officials from PWD and BRO inspected the site and expressed hope that by July 23 evening light vehicles will be able to pass through.
VYO president informed that on July 15, right after the landslide, altogether 400 volunteers from Viswema Village Council, Viswema Women Organisation, Viswema Youth Organisation and Viswema Students’ Union swung into action by helping travellers with carrying their luggage and helping the old and sick persons. Till July 17, about 300 volunteers were engaged in constructing new footpath for the travellers.
During the ordeal, the worst affected were the students. In Viswema alone 4 government primary school, 2 higher secondary, 2 high school, 1 middle school and 2 colleges were affected.
Meanwhile, VYO president thanked the youth organisations from Khuzama, Kidima, Jakhama, SAYO, SASU, Viswema Baptist Khriesarii Krotho, St. Joseph students from Viswema and Khuzama and those who volunteered daily to restore the highway.
