NH-29 Kohima-Jessami road works are set to accelerate, with major GSB, WMM and DBM works scheduled to begin September 12 and targeted for completion by early October.
DIMAPUR — A review meeting involving the district administration, National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and contractor officials was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kohima, on Tuesday to assess the progress of ongoing works along National Highway 29, connecting Kohima with Phek via Jessami.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting reviewed several issues affecting the progress of the works, including sinking zones, road maintenance, Granular Sub-Base (GSB) and Wet Mix Macadam (WMM) works, drainage, culverts, shoulders and protection works.
The contractor committed to commencing major GSB, WMM and Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) works from September 12 and completing the identified works under the Kohima section of the Kohima-Jessami NH-29 by the first week of October.
Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, stressed the need for visible improvement in the pace of work and directed the contractor to ensure the timely deployment of machinery, manpower and materials.

He also urged NHIDCL and the EPC contractor to take local considerations and sentiments into account while executing the road construction works.
The deputy commissioner assured that the district administration would extend necessary support in resolving issues falling within its jurisdiction.
Buchem added that the administration would closely monitor the progress of the works against the timelines committed by the contractor.
