Kohima, April 30 (EMN): About 182 elderly persons celebrated the 14th foundation day of Friends of 80plus of Kohima village, at the Duolhou Garden, on April 30 in Kohima.
Friends of 80plus is a network and fellowship of likeminded people who wish to revive and uphold the old Naga tradition of respecting elders and valuing them the older the elderly become.
The group is a non-profit, voluntary and benevolent fellowship with the objective to document the stories and experiences of 80 plus citizens and to reach out in friendship and fellowship to them through monthly home visits, offering medical assistance etc.
Likewise, an objective is to reach out to them with psychological support, the annual report of the group states.
The program began with a welcome address by a citizen, Keneingunyü Sekhose, followed by invocation which was said by BRCK sr. pastor Khrieneilie Sachü.
A report of 2018-19 was given by Kevitsu Yhome. He said there are 182 registered persons of the age 80 or over in the Kohima village today.
A yearly commemorative magazine was also released during the event.
A free medical check-up by the Naga Hospital was given to the elderly. A feast followed the main event.
