Kohima, Nov. 3 (EMN): H Ngaopulou from Manipur and Vekholhulu from Nagaland won the ‘Peace Marathon 2022’ titles in men's and women's categories respectively held at Pfütsero on Thursday.
The 21-year-old H Ngaopulou from Liyai Khunou village under Senapati district, Manipur, finished the 21 km marathon in 1 hour 16 minutes and emerged champion in the men's category.
Ngaopulou recently won a gold medal each in the 5000-metre and 10,000- metre races in the 2nd Manipur Northeast Olympic Games and is said to be preparing for the upcoming Northeast Olympics.
M Nohching Chang finished the race in 1 hour 19 minutes to take second place and Cuvoto Medeo emerged third.
In the women’s category, Vekholhulu completed 15 km in 1 hour 22 minutes.
Veshenie Vadeo won second place after clocking 1 hour 24 minutes and Vecusulu Chotso clocked 1 hour 26 minute to secure the third position.
The fourth edition of the ‘Peace marathon’ is organised by Kalos Society in collaboration with Chakhesang Wrestling Association under the theme "Rhythm of health”.
The half marathon started at Sakraba for men’s 21 km (half-marathon) and women’s 15 km (half-marathon) from Porba respectively, which culminated at Sports Complex Pfutsero.
A total of 162 participants (100 men and 62 women) from various districts of Nagaland and Manipur took part in the event.
The champions in both men’s and women’s categories received INR 15,000 each. The runner-ups received INR 10,000 each while the second runner-ups bagged INR 7,000 each.
The fourth and fifth position holders also received INR 5000 and INR 3000 each respectively. There were also ten consolation prizes of INR 1000 each in both categories.
Earlier, CWA president Vekhozo and Chakhesang Mothers’ Association president Zhonelu Tunyi, flagged off the events for men's and women's categories.
