Dimapur, July 4 (EMN): Parliamentary Secretary of Land Resources and Excise, B.S. Nganlang encouraged the farmers to utilise the wasteland and barren land by planting trees to increase forest covers and to increase the economy of the state.
Echoing the Nagaland is rich in natural resources, he insisted that the resources should be made best use of for the benefit of the people.
He was speaking as a chief guest at the culmination program of PMKSY-WDC, the erstwhile IWMP projects 3 & 4 under batch II, Dimapur district, department of Land Resources, held at the Research Centre of the department, Ruzaphema on Tuesday.Nganlang congratulated the department and farmers on successful completion of the project course, stating that team work of departmental officials and farmers and active participation with dedication is required for the success of projects.
He also distributed WDF cheques to WC/WMB members.
Also speaking at the programme, secretary of Land Resources, Kikheto Sema (IAS) reminded on the formation of the department and how the field staff of the department has been doing a commendable work.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Medziphema, Vekhweno Chale stressed on the need to increase forest covers and preservation of ground water for the future.
General Manager, NABARD congratulated the department on completion of batch II.
Director of Land Resources, Hoto Yeptho presented a brief report on IWMP and PMKSY, while district project officer of LRD Dimapur, Hekato Yeptho, presented on PMKSY-WDC activities under batch II which was implemented during 2007-2010.
Vanjamo Murry and Botoholi T. Yeptho shared their experience on behalf of the batch II members.
Ave Lohe, WC chairman, Zangdi village and Shikuto Zalipu, WC chairman, Shikuto village also delivered short speeches on behalf of the watershed committees.
Pastor of Ruzaphema Baptist Church, Vimelie Sechu, said the invocation prayer while vote of thanks was proposed by additional director of Land Resources and supervising officer for Dimapur district, Renben Jami.
