Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurates India’s first aluminium freight rake

Dimapur, Oct. 17 (EMN): Union Minister for Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated India’s first aluminium freight rake from Bhubaneswar Railway Station on Oct. 16.

An update from NFR informed that the rake’s destination would be towards Bilaspur which is said to be a dedicated effort for ‘Make in India’ programme as it has been fully designed and developed indigenously in collaboration with RDSO, HINDALCO and Besco Wagon.

The Aluminum Freight Rake is said to be fully constructed with lock bolt and there is no welding on the superstructure. The tare weight of this aluminium rake is 3.25 tones lower than the normal steel rakes which increase its carrying capacity to extra 180 tones resulting in higher throughput per wagon.

The update further informed that Iron industry consumes a lot of imported Nickel and Cadmium hence proliferation of Aluminium wagons will result in less import and a positive start for local aluminium industry.
