Northeast Frontier Railway will conduct plantation and anti-plastic drives for World Environment Day 2026.

DIMAPUR — The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will observe World Environment Day 2026 with a series of awareness and environmental protection programmes across all its divisions and units from May 15 to June 5, focusing on climate change and sustainable practices.
According to an official release, this year’s observance will centre on the theme “Climate Change”, with activities aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, cleanliness and conservation awareness among railway employees, passengers and the public.
As part of the campaign, NFR will organise plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, awareness rallies, seminars and other eco-friendly initiatives throughout its network during the three-week period.

The railway authorities stated that special emphasis would be placed on reducing plastic usage, maintaining cleanliness at railway stations and railway colonies, conserving water and encouraging green practices in railway operations.
Mass tree plantation drives are also scheduled to be carried out at railway stations, offices, workshops, colonies and other railway premises to improve green cover and promote environmental responsibility.
Railway officials, staff, students and social organisations are expected to participate in the programmes organised during the observance period.
The observance will culminate on World Environment Day on June 5 with special programmes, awareness activities and administration of an environmental pledge across all NFR divisions.
NFR stated that it has continued to undertake eco-friendly measures as part of its commitment towards sustainable and environment-friendly railway operations in the Northeast region.
