
Dimapur, Nov. 24 (EMN): Commemorating the 400th birth anniversary of Commander-in-Chief of the Ahom Army, Bir Lachit Barphukan, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) observed Lachit Divas from Nov. 21 till the 24th at NFR Headquarter and all divisions.
An update issued on issued on Nov. 24 informed that Anshul Gupta, General Manager of NFR and other officials paid homage by lighting the lamp and offering floral tribute to the portrait of Bir Lachit Barphukan.

During the programme, an exhibition on the life history and heroic deeds of Bir Lachit Barphukan was displayed at Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Sabha Griha in NFR Headquarters complex.
All the divisions of NFR marked the occasion by lighting the lamp and offering floral tribute to the portrait of Bir Lachit Barphukan.

During the occasion, members of Bharat Scouts and Guides and NFR performed skit by displaying the gallantry during the Battle of Saraighat of Bir Lachit Barphukan at its Headquarter and all the divisions.

‘Bir Lachit Barphukan was a great military leader and an exemplary figure of Assamese society. He is best known for leading the Ahom kingdom forces to victory against the invading Mughals in the Battle of Saraighat in 1671. He did not fight for religion or his own glory but he fought for his land, his own people and that is what made him win the battle against the Mughals,’ the update informed.
Anshul Gupta said Assam under Northeast India owes to the Bir Lachit Barphukan for remaining free from Mughal subjugation.
