DIMAPUR — The
General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Chetan Kumar Shrivastava,
held a review meeting with the members of Parliament whose constituencies are
served by Alipurduar and Katihar divisions of NFR, at Siliguri on Friday.
In an update, the NFR informed that MPs from West Bengal,
Bihar, Assam and Sikkim were present in the discussion.
The Lok Sabha MPs present included Tariq Anwar (Katihar),
Rajesh Ranjan (Purnia), Pradeep Kumar Singh (Araria), Dr. Jayanta Kumar Roy (Jalpaiguri),
Md. Rakibul Hussain (Dhubri), Manoj Tigga (Alipurduar), Kartick Chandra Paul
(Raiganj) and Joyanta Basumatary (Kokrajhar).
The Rajya Sabha MPs were Dorjee Tshering Lepcha (Sikkim) and
Nagendra Ray (West Bengal).
Senior railway officials from Alipurduar, Katihar divisions
of NFR and from headquarters were also present in the meeting.
The general manager of NFR highlighted various ongoing
developmental activities, new lines and survey works being carried out by the
NFR, with specific reference to areas under Alipurduar and Katihar divisions.
Suggestions and views from all the public representatives
present were welcomed for further betterment of services and amenities.
Shrivastava also briefed the MPs about the numerous festival
special trains that were operated for the devotees of the region. He also
informed the lawmakers about the Intrusion Detection System (IDS), which has
been immensely successful in saving lives of many elephants from being hit by
oncoming trains.
Additionally, he mentioned about introduction of QR code
machines at the ticket counters over the NFR, to enable cashless transactions,
in line with the vision of ‘Digital India.’
“MPs were also briefed about the status of on-going
electrification, doubling and new line projects of Northeast. The General
Manager mentioned about the various stations that are being redeveloped under
Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in the region,” it stated.
The MPs suggested extension and improvement of railway
connectivity, passenger amenities and upgrade of stations etc., the update
added.
