Dimapur, Feb. 3 (EMN): A 72-hour anti-corruption drive in ‘mass contact’ areas of the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway commenced on Jan. 31. The railway authorities have been launching surprise checks in all ‘public interface’ locations while interactions with railway users also have been conducted.
A press release from NF Railway in Maligaon in Assam on Jan. 31 stated that the drive was in progress in five divisions viz. Katihar, Alipurduar, Rangia, Lumding, and Tinsukia. The campaign is to convey a message to its employees that the authority will not tolerate ‘malpractice.’
It was informed that a staff member from Katihar division was penalised for overcharging a passenger while another, from the Lumding division, was put under suspension when found with ‘excess amount of money in his custody while on duty,’ the updates stated.
‘Surprise night checks’ at booking counters, windows, reservation counters, parcel offices, lost-and-found offices, TTE’s offices and trains have also been inspected. Inspections are being carried out through RPF personnel at different locations, the release stated.
As the Indian railway has embarked on a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, the NFR will be conducting many drives against corruption, the release stated.
