Organisations condemn NFHRCC's remarks against Minister Aye
Several organisation including the Sumi Youth Organisation, Satakha Area GB Association have expressed dismay over the recent remarks made by the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee against the Minister for Road and Bridges, G Kaito Aye
DIMAPUR — The Sumi Youth Organisation (SYO) and
the Satakha Area GB Association have both expressed dismay over the recent
remarks made by the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC)
against the Minister for Road and Bridges, G Kaito Aye.
The SYO, while acknowledging the NFHRCC for their
"proactive engagement" regarding the adherence of contractors to the
work outlined in the detailed project report (DPR), expressed disappointment at
the disparaging remarks directed towards the minister.
In a press statement, the organisation said that the
NFHRCC's comments—"very unfortunate", "not capable to understand
the concept of the Foothills Road till date", and "it now have no
option but appeal to the state Chief Minister to intervene and educate the
minister in-charge through all means"—appear to stem from ill intent,
potentially aimed at discrediting his reputation and undermining his position
within the Cabinet.
The SYO stated that it views these assertions as not only
irresponsible but also lacking analytical rigor. It further added that, in the
estimation of right-thinking citizens, such remarks from the NFHRCC are
surprising and unwarranted.
“The SYO interprets these statements as neither in the
public interest nor in good faith and deems it as a civil wrong,” it said.
It appealed to the NFHRCC to adopt a more cautious approach
in its statements in the future, as such remarks are detrimental and
counterproductive to the NFHRCC's endeavours. The SYO also stated that these
statements imprudently harm the reputation of the democratically elected leader
representing the constituency and the general public.
The Satakha Area GB Association, in a statement, condemned
the "derogatory remarks" for deliberately targeting Aye through
personal attacks.
It was stated that, while the NFHRCC’s past contributions to
public welfare, including its role in advancing the Foothill Road project, are
acknowledged, its reckless deviation into alienating language that undermines
the dignity of a tall leader is appalling.
Criticising the "tone and content" of the NFHRCC’s
statement, it was said that it transgresses the basic tenets of civility and
mutual respect expected of any body entrusted with public responsibility. It
went on to say that to weaponise language against an elected representative,
shifting focus from constructive discourse to malicious insinuations, not only
dishonours the spirit of collaboration but also jeopardises the collective
progress of the state.
“Such actions, driven by personal agendas rather than public
interest, would cast doubt on the Committee’s credibility and raise urgent
questions about its commitment to its proclaimed goals,” it read.
Stating that the association and all the citizens of Satakha
have been greatly insulted, the association demanded an "immediate and
unequivocal withdrawal of the offensive statements," accompanied by a
"public apology" from the NFHRCC for tarnishing the minister’s
reputation.
Further, it urged the committee to refrain from employing
such inflammatory tactics, stating that it threatens to destabilise public
trust and derail critical development initiatives.
The Satakha Area GB Association called upon all stakeholders
to rise above petty discord and prioritise Nagaland’s shared aspirations. It
added that leaders and institutions must be shielded from baseless attacks, and
public interest defended with unwavering resolve.
