DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has appealed to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to expedite the issuance of work orders for the second phase of the two-lane Foothills Road project before the onset of the monsoon season.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the committee expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for his support to the Foothills Road, also referred to as the “Nagaland People’s Road,” since its inception in 2013. The project covers 395.9 km from Tizit in Mon district to Khelma in Peren district, passing through eight districts and more than 200 villages.
The committee stated that the first phase of the two-lane project under the SASCI loan scheme is almost complete and therefore appealed for early release of work orders for the remaining divisions under Phase II.

The NFHRCC also appreciated Minister for PWD (Roads & Bridges) Kaito Aye for personally inspecting the ongoing construction sites at Baghty division in Wokha district on February 7 and for granting an extended deadline of March 31, 2026, to complete the work without compromising quality. It said contractor firms M/S JK Constructions and M/S Chabou & Co, along with the departmental technical supervisory team, are expected to adhere to the commitment made before the minister.
Further, the committee urged MLA of 40 Bhandari A/C Achumbemo Kikon to uphold his written commitment that he had selected the contractor firms based on their credentials and would personally monitor and supervise the works within his constituency at Baghty division. It said the MLA had also obtained assurance from the firms that they would invest their own resources if government funds were delayed, and requested him to inspect the site to ensure quality workmanship and materials.
The committee also called on the concerned department to immediately secure the supply of galvanised steel structures to four bridge construction firms at Baghty division and one contractor at Peren division, and to release the requisite funds to enable timely completion of works.
The NFHRCC also acknowledged the Ao Senden, the Lotha Hoho and other organisations for urging the government to expedite completion of the Foothills Road project.
