Committee seeks chief minister’s intervention for Foothills Road Project meeting

DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Foothills Road Co-ordination Committee (NFHRCC) has requested Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to grant an early appointment for a comprehensive discussion on the Nagaland Foothills Road construction project, a meeting the committee has been seeking since November 2022.
During its October 25 meeting, the committee also adopted several resolutions concerning the Foothills Road project.
The NFHRCC reiterated its request to the NPWD (R&B) to ensure the concerned contractor firms, who were issued 17 work orders last year, complete their tasks by the December 2025 deadline as per the contract agreement.
The committee resolved to urge the concerned department to expedite completion of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the second phase of the SASCI Loan Scheme, covering the remaining portion of the 2-lane Foothills Road construction.

The committee also urged the government to prioritise completion of the ongoing 2-lane Foothills Road construction before pursuing further upgrade to National Highway status with the union government.
Additionally, it committee resolved to insist that the concerned department adopt an open tender system for the remaining works until the project becomes fully motorable.
Further, the NFHRCC urged the department to allocate 10-15 km stretches to individual contractor firms based on merit, aiming to promote young, qualified Naga entrepreneurs through transparent and competency-based practices.
