Dimapur, Nov. 3: The Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) and leaders of 11 tribe hohos on Sat., Nov. 3 issued an ultimatum to the contractor looking after the construction of the Doyang Bridge––to resume construction work within 14 days, starting Nov. 4.
Failure to meet the ‘deadline’ will prompt the committee and the tribe hoho leaders to “initiate necessary action.” The decision was taken during a meeting on Nov. 3, when the NFHRCC along with the leaders of 11 tribe hohos inspected the Doyang Bridge in Wokha. The group also passed some resolutions.
During the meeting, several leaders expressed resentment at the contractor’s failure to attend the event, stating that he was ‘undermining the dignity of the committee and the tribal hohos.’ “He should have at least sent a representative if he, at least, respects the committee and the hohos,” the NFHRCC stated.
With regard to the roadwork between Niuland and Naginimora sector, spanning about 8 km, the group has resolved to appeal TO the chief minister and the department in concern to issue work order within this month.
Speaking about the road alignment, the committee has informed that it will go ahead as per the approval given by the NFHRCC in consultation with the PWD (R&B).
Also, officials of the NFHRCC informed that its office will remain open for 24 hours, and has appealed to individuals, associations, and tribe hohos to consult with the committee for any clarification before going to the press, to prevent confusion.
Once completed, the Doyang Bridge will serve as one uninterrupted route linking Mon directly with Dimapur without having to take a detour via the roads of Assam.
