DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC), along with the apex Konyak Union (KU) and KU Tizit Unit, conducted a joint inspection of the Tizit Division on November 29.

According to a press release, the team was accompanied by the contractor firm M/S Onkho Constructions and Suppliers, the department team led by the executive engineer, Public Works Department (Road and Bridges), Tizit/Mon division, and local CSO leaders.

Following a deliberation at the conference hall of the KU Tizit Unit, the committee resolved that the two-lane Foothills Road would be completed first before initiating any four-lane expansion.

It was resolved that the ongoing Foothills Road work within Mon district would be jointly monitored by the KU, the concerned department, and the NFHRCC to ensure a concerted approach without bias. The members also agreed to foster stronger coordination between the NFHRCC and KU to materialise the project.

Noting that the working season has arrived, the committee resolved that the second phase work order under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme should be issued immediately for the remaining divisions across the state so that "no community shall be left behind".

The site inspection covered the stretch from Lapa Lampong point towards Sufury Bridge in Tizit sub-division, spanning 20.4 km.

During the visit, the contractor explained the reasons for the delayed start and requested a time extension, assuring the team that the work would be completed by March 2025. The NFHRCC urged the firm to submit an official letter to the department for the extension, with a copy endorsed to the committee.

The update noted that while work progress was slow at approximately 30-35%, the workmanship was found to be satisfactory.

The inspection team also urged M/S Shangpoh Konyak to immediately commence construction of the 11.80 m RCC solid slab bridge over the Tehak river, noting that clearance for material supply is feasible from both ends.
