- DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC)
has stated that it is "compelled" to convene an emergency meeting on
February 20 at 5 pm at the NFHRCC Base Office, Kher Mahal, Dimapur, with the
apex and Dimapur-based tribal hohos "so as to safeguard the Naga public
from the clutches of benefactors”.
- According to a press statement, this move follows the
absence of a proposed meeting with the relevant contractors and the apparent
disregard for the requests made by the apex tribal hohos and the committee.
- It was mentioned that on February 7, the Minister for PWD
(Road and Bridges) had invited all 12 tribal hohos for a consultative meeting
in Kohima, where it was resolved that within a few days, the department would
convene a joint meeting with the committee and the contractors to work out an
amicable solution.
- However, it stated that, to date, despite the request made
by the committee, the proposed meeting has not yet been convened for reasons
best known to the relevant parties. In the meantime, the committee has been
invited by M/S JK Construction and M/S Chabou & Co. to attend the launching
programme on February 21 at Baghty Division, without an agreement being signed
with the committee, despite requests made by the apex tribal hohos and the
committee.
- It cited that, as such, the invitation to the committee for
the launching programme is the highest form of insult, which amounts to
undermining the honour, majesty, and dignity of both the apex tribal hohos and
the committee. It also clearly demonstrates that the firms intend to crush and
suppress the voices of the hohos and the Naga public, it said.
- The NFHRCC therefore requested attendance at the meeting,
despite busy schedules, stating that it is high time for the Nagas to decide
whether they will be crushed under the hands of a few benefactors or whether
they will develop their land with justice and transparency.
