DIMAPUR — As part of the 25th Hornbill Festival, the Nagaland Flower Growers Society (NFGS) organised a week-long mini flower bazaar at the farmers market near Hotel FIFA, Kohima.
The event featured a wide array of fresh cut flowers, presentation bouquets, saplings, potted greens and seasonal flowering plants for sale, which attracted numerous visitors and vendors.
On Friday, a prize distribution ceremony for fresh flower and dry flower competitions was held, where 30 participants showcased their artistic arrangements.
Temsunaro Aier, commissioner and secretary of IPR and mission director of Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, attended the prize distribution ceremony as the chief guest.
In her address, Aier emphasised the potential of floriculture as a sustainable livelihood for farmers, encouraging them to be self-reliant and reduce dependence on government schemes. She lauded NFGS for its pioneering role in promoting floriculture in the state and its contributions to beautification efforts and empowering flower growers.
In the dry flower arrangement category, first position was awarded to Sabino Nakhro, while Meyievino Theluo and Anungla Jamir were awarded second and third positions respectively. Consolation prizes were awarded to Bino Sophie and Pekruvinuo Pienyu.
Dzuvisenuo bagged the first place in the fresh flower category, while Pekruvinuo Pienyu and Anungla Jamir were awarded second and third positions respectively. Consolation prizes were awarded to Yatetinla Ozukum and Meyievino Theluo.
The NFGS, established in 2007 under the department of Horticulture, continues to promote floriculture as a viable business and support its members in becoming successful entrepreneurs.
