Dimapur, July 31 (EMN): N.F. Railway has been steadily improving its punctuality performance.
The chief public relation officer NF Railway/Maligaon, P.J. Sharma in a press note stated that figures from April to July indicate that punctuality has improved from 67.21% in April to 69.46% in May to 76.3% in June and finally to 81% in July.
N.F. Railway has taken up number of steps to improve punctuality of trains. Noticeable among them are starting and ending terminals of nine pairs of trains that have been interchanged between Guwahati and Kamakhya station. This has been done with the purpose of decongesting the section between Kamakhya and Guwahati stations. 18 pairs of conventional passenger trains have been converted to DEMU trains.
Composition of 28 pairs of long distance trains leaving from Dibrugarh, Guwahati and Kamakhya station have been standardised. Five trains have been speeded up by reducing running time ranging from 15 mts to 25 mts. Sharma also stated that stoppage times of 33 passing trains at Guwahati station and 50 passing trains at New Jalpaiguri have been rationalised.
Re-routing of Siliguri – New Bongaigaon DEMU via Siliguri – Gulma section.
Timings of three trains have been revised and three stations namely Balurghat, Rampurbazar and Gazole have been upgraded to “B” class.
N.F. Railway being a terminal railway suffers from some inherent disadvantages like late arrival of link trains from other Zones resulting into re-scheduling. Trains becoming out of path due to excessive late taken over from other railways and frequent bandh / agitation etc.
However by strict monitoring of trains at the highest level, the railway has achieved the recent milestone the statement added.
