DIMAPUR — Advisor of of Soil and Water Conservation and IPR, Daochier I Imchen, visited the Research and Training Centre (RTC), Sechü Zubza, on Friday to assess the functioning and ongoing activities of the institute. During the visit, the advisor inspected various units of the centre, including the Biofertiliser Production Unit, Vermicompost Unit, Soil Testing Laboratory, and Agroforestry Nursery, an update stated. Imchen took stock of the existing facilities, their present condition, and the activities being undertaken by the respective units. He also assessed the overall functioning of the institute and interacted with the officers and staff of the centre. During the interaction, discussions were held on the activities, challenges, and welfare of the institute, with particular emphasis on strengthening its programmes and facilities for the overall development and uplift of the centre. The visit provided an opportunity to review the progress of the centre and identify areas that could be further strengthened to enhance its role in research, training, soil health management, biofertiliser production, and agroforestry development.
IHRC Nagaland condemns fatal assault
DIMAPUR — The International Human Rights Council (IHRC), Nagaland State Chapter, has condemned the reported assault and subsequent death of 30-year-old Viloto at Balijan along the Dimapur-Assam border on September 9. In a press release, the council stated that Viloto, reportedly an orphan, sustained serious injuries after he was allegedly beaten and assaulted. He was admitted to the ICU at District Hospital, Dimapur, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The IHRC urged the Assam and Nagaland Police to conduct a thorough, fair and impartial investigation into the incident, including its circumstances and alleged motive. It also called for examination of available evidence, including video footage, eyewitness accounts and other relevant material, to establish the facts and ensure that those responsible are dealt with according to law. The council expressed condolences to Viloto’s family, friends and loved ones, and urged authorities to ensure justice is delivered transparently and promptly.
Power supply hits Wokha, Tseminyu
DIMAPUR — Power supply to Wokha and Tseminyu districts was affected on Friday following equipment failures at the 132/33kV Wokha Sub-Station and 132/33kV Sanis Sub-Station. In a press release, the Executive Engineer of the Transmission Division, Kohima, stated that the department was making all-out efforts to restore power supply at the earliest. The department appealed to the public to bear with the inconvenience and extend their cooperation during the restoration process.
JCF raises copper theft concern
DIMAPUR — The Joint Council Forum (JCF), Dimapur, has expressed serious concern over increasing incidents of air-conditioner (AC) copper wire and copper coil theft reported from various areas. In a press release, the forum said the thefts were not merely cases of property loss but were creating a growing sense of insecurity and causing financial losses to residents, businesses and institutions. The JCF expressed concern that the incidents could involve an organised chain extending beyond those directly responsible for the thefts. It urged authorities to investigate not only the thefts but also those knowingly purchasing, storing, transporting or facilitating the sale of stolen copper materials.
The forum specifically called for scrutiny of scrap dealers, intermediaries and other entities involved in handling or disposing of stolen copper wires and coils. It maintained that public and private property must be protected equally and urged authorities to intensify enforcement, take firm legal action and treat the matter with urgency to restore public confidence and ensure property security.
NSCN (IM) refutes recruitment claims
DIMAPUR — The NSCN (IM) has denied reports alleging that two individuals arrested in Arunachal Pradesh were working under Major Wangjan Pangtha and facilitating the recruitment of local youths and providing logistical support. In a press release, the group stated that the reports, published and broadcast by Nagaland-based news outlets, regional print and online platforms, and national media on September 7, were “baseless and unfounded.” The NSCN (IM) claimed that Major Wangjan Pangtha has been stationed at its General Headquarters for the past ten months and has not been assigned duties of the nature described in the reports. It alleged that the reports were misleading and appeared to be aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the organisation and targeting the officer for “personal reasons best known to the originators of such claims.” The NSCN (IM) categorically denied the allegations and maintained that neither Major Wangjan Pangtha nor the organisation had any involvement in the matter reported.
Bombay Makeup Bazaar in Wokha
WOKHA — The Bombay Makeup Bazaar Sale was inaugurated in Wokha on Friday, showcasing a wide range of makeup, beauty, footwear, fashion and lifestyle products at promotional prices. The launch programme was attended by Vungathung C Murry, president of WDCC&I, who underscored the convenience of having diverse products available locally. He noted that residents often travel to Kohima, Dimapur and other towns for such items, but the bazaar now brings them closer to home.
The sale is being held at the Centre Point Building, next to Vishal Mart, Tsumang Colony, Wokha, and will continue until September 21. Organisers informed that products are available at promotional rates, with prices starting from INR 10, offering budget-friendly options across categories. Items on display include cosmetics, footwear, fashion apparel, toys, home decor, kitchenware, cooking utensils and other household essentials.
