NSCN/GPRN (YA), ULFA issue joint I-Day boycott call
DIMAPUR — The NSCN/GPRN (YA) and ULFA have jointly called for a total boycott of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15 in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland. In a joint declaration, the two groups described the celebrations as an “imposed” event and alleged that observing Independence Day on what they termed “Wesean soil” amounted to accepting Indian domination and suppression of indigenous rights. The groups claimed that the people of the region have a distinct history, identity, culture and connection to their ancestral land, and argued that their present political status does not determine their identity. They further alleged that Independence Day celebrations were being used as an instrument of psychological and cultural subjugation, particularly among younger generations. The NSCN/GPRN (YA) and ULFA said they remained committed to what they described as a struggle for freedom, justice, equality and human rights. They rejected the characterisation of their organisations as terrorist groups, calling themselves “revolutionaries” seeking liberation.
Pungro SDPDB meeting held
DIMAPUR — The Pungro Sub-Divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB) held its monthly meeting at the SDPDB Conference Hall, Pungro, in Kiphire district on Monday. Addressing the meeting, Chairman of SDPDB Pungro and Advisor for Fire & Emergency Services, Home Guards & Civil Defence, and Relief & Rehabilitation, S Kiusumew Yimchunger, urged members to remain diligent and efficient and contribute towards the overall development of the sub-division, a DIPR report stated. He also encouraged members to put forward proposals backed by proper research and aimed at benefiting the citizens. Vice Chairman of SDPDB and ADC Pungro, Hotolu Sema, reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting and presented the agendas for the day. Following detailed discussions and deliberations, the house unanimously passed three proposals: construction of an assembly shade at GHSS Pungro; provision of tap water facilities at Khongsa town; and resumption of NST bus service from Kiphire to Pungro ADC headquarters.
KCCI directs shops to paint fronts
DIMAPUR — The Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) has asked all shopkeepers and business establishments under the Kohima Municipal Council to whitewash and paint the fronts of their buildings and shops facing the roads. The directive was issued following instructions from the district administration in view of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15. All concerned have been asked to complete the whitewashing and painting works by August 14. The KCCI appealed to members of the business community to comply with the directive within the stipulated time and extend their cooperation in keeping Kohima town clean, fresh and presentable ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
DGC launches MA History prog.
DIMAPUR — The Department of History, Dimapur Government College (DGC), inaugurated the Master of Arts (MA) in History programme under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 on Monday. According to an update issued by the college, the programme was formally inaugurated by Dr T. Tiakaba Jamir, Principal of DGC, in the presence of heads of departments, faculty members, staff and newly admitted postgraduate students of the MA programme. The Department of History and the principal expressed gratitude to Minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs Temjen Imna Along, Ex-Officio Director of Higher Education V Lovitoly Sema, the Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University and officials of the department for their support in making the milestone possible. The launch of the postgraduate programme marks a significant step in strengthening higher education opportunities in the field of History at Dimapur Government College.
Free baking training in Dimapur
DIMAPUR — Vision for Change, Dimapur, is organising a free commercial basic baking class at Duncan Bosti, Dimapur, for unemployed youth interested in acquiring practical baking skills for employment, self-employment and starting their own bakery business. According to an update, the training will provide practical knowledge in commercial cake making, bun making, cookies and other bakery products. All baked goods shall be taken home by the trainees. Nagaland LJP (RV) leaders attend party’s national meet
DIMAPUR — Leaders of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Nagaland attended the party’s national executive meeting held in New Delhi on Monday. From Nagaland, the meeting was attended by Richard Humtsoe, National Secretary of LJP (RV); Dr. Sukhato A Sema, MLA and Leader of the LJP (RV); Naiba Konyak, MLA and Chief Whip, LJP (RV); and Viloto Pukhato, state president, LJP (RV) Nagaland.
