Man held for murdering wife

New Delhi, August 7 (IANS): A man has been arrested here for slitting his wife’s throat after he suspected she was having an extra-marital affair, police said on Monday. Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya said Minakshi, 30, was murdered by her husband Parveen, 32, at their house in south Delhi’s Badarpur area on Saturday. The officer said the accused, a driver, was arrested the same day. Baaniya said the couple was married for 12 years and had two sons aged 10 and 4. He said the deceased had injury marks on her neck and head. Baaniya said the incident happened early on Saturday when the children were not in the house.

Fire destroys two classrooms at IIM Ranchi

Ranchi, August 7 (IANS): A fire gutted two classrooms at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi on Monday, police said. The fire broke out at the fifth floor of Suchna Bhawan. Six fire tenders battles the blaze and extinguished it after over three hours. Police suspect a short circuit led to the fire. The Anti Corruption Bureau is situated in the same building.

Man held at Delhi airport with Rs 7.5L gold biscuits

New Delhi, August 7 (PTI): A Chennai-bound air traveller was apprehended at the airport here today for allegedly trying to smuggle out gold biscuits, worth around Rs 7.5 lakh, by concealing them in his bag, officials said. A senior security official at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) said the incident was reported early morning when CISF personnel deployed for scanning passenger’s baggage detected something suspicious in a bag. When it was opened and three gold biscuits, weighing 450 gm each, were recovered from it, the official said. The passenger, identified as Mohammad Sheikh, was handed over to the Customs who are probing the case, the official said.

Pakistani militant killed in J&K

Srinagar, August 7 (IANS): A Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant was killed in a gunfight with the security forces on Monday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said. “The encounter took place in Pampore town’s Sambora area. The victim has been identified as Umer from LeT’s Abu Ismail faction,” police officials said. “One AK-47 rifle was recovered from the encounter site.” On Sunday, the police confirmed the Abu Ismail group’s involvement in the July 10 attack on an Amarnath Yatra bus in which eight pilgrims were killed.

Fake Rs 2,000 notes seized by BSF in Bengal, one held

Kolkata, August 7 (IANS): The Border Security Force personnel seized fake Rs 2,000 notes with face value of Rs 92,000 from West Bengal’s Malda district and detained a man carrying it, a BSF official said on Monday. Acting on a tip-off, the BSF troopers from Malda district’s Kaliachawk kept vigil at three important intersections in the area since Sunday afternoon and detained a man with fake notes from near Baliadanga in the evening, an official said. Samayon (40), a resident of Kaliachawk’s Mohabatpur village, was detained by the BSF around 7.40 p.m. on Sunday, ARPS Jaswal, Director General of BSF’s South Bengal Frontier. said in a press release. “A bundle of 46 fake Rs 2,000 notes of the face value of Rs 92,000 was seized from him.” The apprehended man and the seized FICN (fake Indian currency notes) have been handed over to Kaliachawk police station for further legal action, he added. So far in 2017, the south Bengal frontier of the BSF has seized fake Indian currency notes of the face value of Rs 30.84 lakh and caught five men, the BSF said.

13-year-old girl killed in leopard attack in Reasi

Jammu, August 7 (PTI): A 13-year old girl was mauled to death by a leopard in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, the police said today. The incident occurred last night at Dhok Kataji in Mahore tehsil when Shahida Parveen (13), the daughter of Mohammad Fareed, was attacked by the big cat, which dragged her away from the compound of her house and killed her, said a senior police officer. As the family members of the girl raised an alarm, the villagers went after the leopard, the officer said, adding that the body of the victim was subsequently found by them late at night.

80 kg ganja seized in Odisha

Bhawanipatna (Odisha), August 7 (PTI): Police seized 80 kg of ganja from a vehicle and arrested three persons travelling in it in Odisha’s Kalahandi district today. Acting on information, police carried out a thorough checking of vehicles near Koksara and detained the car which was on its way to Behera in Kalahandi district to Rajasthan with the contraband, police said. Around 80 kg contraband ganja was recovered from the car bearing Rajasthan registration number. Besides arresting the three, the car used for smuggling ganja was also seized, the police added.
