Magnitude of 4.8 hit NE state

Imphal, July 13 (EMN): An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale rocked entire states of Manipur and North Eastern part of India on Thursday, according to Siesmological Observatory of Department of Earth Science, Manipur University. The quake occurred at 10.33 AM at a depth of 85 km below the ground and the epicentre is located at eastern bank of Chindwin river which is about 137km away from Manipur university campus and 7 km south east of Mawlaik in neighbouring Myanmar, said Prof Arun Kumar, Principal Investigator of Siesmological Observatory of Department of Earth Science, Manipur Univsersity. The epicentre has been located at Longitude 23.61 Deg North and Latitude 94.45 Deg East, reports added. However the tremor was felt not much in the North Eastern state and there was no report of any loss of life or property.
Toll in Assam floods touches 49
Guwahati, July 13 (IANS): The death toll in flood-ravaged Assam touched 49 on Thursday, authorities said. Five fresh flood-related deaths were reported from different parts of the state on Thursday, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh on Thursday spoke to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and expressed concern over the damage caused by the devastating floods. Rajnath Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said the Centre would render all possible help to Assam. “The Centre is very much with the people of Assam at this time of the crisis and assures all possible help to normalise the situation,” he said. A Central team led by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju visited some of the flood-hit areas of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to assess the losses.
BSF jawan missing from inundated BOP in Assam
Dhubri, July 13 (PTI): A BSF jawan has gone missing from an inundated border outpost in Assam’s Dhubri district and is feared to have drowned. According to BSF officials, the jawan went missing last night from Chowkichar outpost where he was on patrolling duty. Though it is not confirmed, it is feared that he died due to drowning near the outpost. A rescue operation has been launched to find him by BSF’s water wing, NDRF and local residents, the officials said. The jawan has been identified as Bipin Mishra(45) and hails from Bihar, they added.
Assam flood: Nadda assures all help to state govt
New Delhi, July 13 (PTI): Union health minister J P Nadda today assured all help to the Assam government in dealing with the flood situation and asked his ministry officials to keep in touch with the state’s health department. “Asked officials of @MoHFW_INDIA to be in touch with health officials of Assam. We are with our brothers & sisters of Assam in this situation,” Nadda tweeted. Nadda also spoke to Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal to enquire about the flood situation in the state. The flood situation in Assam worsened today as five more deaths were reported in the deluge which has affected over 17 lakh people in 24 districts.
