Two doctors suspended for denying ambulance to carry dead man
Ranchi, July 10 (IANS): Two doctors were suspended on Monday for denying an ambulance to ferry the dead body of a man in Jharkhand’s Chatra district. The Chatra district administration, Sadar hospital administrator Nishant Kumar and his deputy Krishna Kumar were suspended. A probe has been ordered to find out the reason why an ambulance was denied. The poor medical services in Jharkhand were again highlighted when a man and his sister-in-law carried the dead body of his brother after being denied an ambulance in Chatra district. According to media reports appearing on Monday, Rajendra Oraon, a resident of Sidpa village of Chatra district, was bitten by a snake. He was admitted at Chatra district Sadar hospital for treatment, where he died on Sunday. Locals have alleged that the treatment was not started on time, leading to his death. The family members requested an ambulance to ferry the body, which the hospital denied. The brother of the dead man and his sister-in-law (bhabhi) then carried the body with their hands. The locals watching the incident kicked up a hue and cry over it. A few months ago a woman delivered a baby by the roadside after being denied medical treatment.
Telangana couple kills three daughters, commits suicide
Hyderabad, July 10 (IANS): A couple killed their three daughters and committed suicide in Telangana’s Karimnagar district, the police said on Monday. G. Komaraiah (36) and his wife Komaramma (34) strangulated their daughters to death before hanging themselves at their residence in Huzurabad area on Sunday night. The shocking incident came to light on Monday when neighbours saw the bodies and alerted the police. Locals said some relatives of Komaramma had assaulted Komaraiah on suspicion that he was practicing black magic. The couple felt insulted over this and resorted to the extreme step after killing their children aged between six and 10 years.
31 die in Bihar lightning strikes
Patna, July 10 (IANS): At least 31 people have been killed and over a dozen injured in incidents of lightning strikes across Bihar since Sunday, said an official on Monday. The toll was confirmed by Principal Secretary of the state’s Disaster Management Department Pratyay Amrit. Deaths were reported from Vaishali, Patna, Rohtas, Saran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Gaya, Samastipur, Siwan, Araria and Aurangabad districts on Sunday, said the department’s Joint Secretary Anirudh Kumar. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the family of each victim. Accordiing to the department officials, nearly 150 people have been killed in lightning strikes in Bihar this year. Lightning strikes during the June-September monsoon season are common across Bihar, with bamboo and grass huts more at risk. Bihar received heavy rainfall on Sunday, and the Meteorological Department has forecast similar conditions on Monday as well.
The cross-Line of Control (LoC) bus service between Chakan Da Bagh and Rawalakot was suspended on Monday due to tension in Poonch district. Indian and Pakistan armies traded heavy fire on the LoC in Gulpur, Kalmara and Chakan Da Bagh areas on Sunday and Monday. Two persons, including an army soldier on leave and his wife, were killed and their two children injured on Sunday when Pakistan indulged in unprovoked heavy shelling and firing on civilian areas near the LoC. The Pakistan Army also violated ceasefire in the district on Monday. Custodian of Chakan Da Bagh trade facilitation centre Tanveer Ahmad confirmed the suspension of the bus service. The bus service began in 2005 as a big Cross Border Movement between India and Pakistan to help members of divided families across the LoC meet each other.
The Railways will run three pairs of special trains from July 15 to 21 to clear the extra- rush of pilgrims during the Kanwar Yatra, which started today. Moreover, the route of the Delhi-Shamli and Delhi- Saharanpur passenger train would extend up to Haridwar for the ‘kanwar’ pilgrims, the Northern Railways (NR) said. “The three special trains - Delhi-Haridwar-Delhi Express, Rishikesh-Haridwar-Rishikesh passenger and Bareilly-Haridwar- Bareilly Express - will run from July 15 to July 21,” it said. ‘Kanwar Yatra’ is an annual pilgrimage undertaken by the devotees of Lord Shiva, known as ‘kanwarias’. The pilgrims in various parts of the country travel or walk to places such as Haridwar, Gomukh and Gangotri to take a dip, fetch water from the Ganga and offer it at Shiva temples back home. The annual pilgrimage will culminate on July 21.
The central government is extending all possible help to the Northeast which is facing floods and landslides, Union minister Kiren Rijiju said today. “Most of the Northeast is devastated with floods and landslides. The Centre is extending all possible help, including manpower, for relief and restoration,” he said here. Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are facing floods and landslides due to incessant rains in last couple of days. Landslides, triggered by torrential rains in Manipur, have severely affected transport links to the landlocked state with buses and goods and fuel carriers stranded on national highways. As many as 15 districts of Assam were affected by the current floods which marooned 4.86 lakh people. So far 26 people have lost their lives due to the floods, which have also hit 41,239 hectares of crops. The state government has set up 90 relief camps where 17,740 people have taken shelter. Yesterday, concerned over the grim flood condition in Assam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and took stock of the prevailing situation in the state. The prime minister also assured him of all central help.
The Pakistan Army targeted villages and forward posts along the LoC in Poonch sector with mortars and small arms fire overnight, damaging a trade facilitation centre and police barracks. “There was overnight heavy firing and shelling by Pakistani troops along the LoC in Poonch district. It continued till 0100 hours today”, a police officer said. In the shelling, a trade facilitation centre and police barracks were damaged, the officer said. Yesterday, the Pakistan Army fired from small arms, automatic weapons and mortar bombs on villages and Indian Army posts along the LoC in Poonch district. There have been 23 incidents of ceasefire violation, one BAT attack and two infiltration bids by Pakistan in June in which four people, including three jawans, were killed and 12 injured.
