Patton, Phangnon extend Tsungremmong greetings
DIMAPUR — Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and Rajya Sabha MP S Phangnon Konyak have extended greetings to the Ao community on the occasion of the Tsungremmong festival. In a message, Patton wished the community a joyful celebration, peace, and abundance as they mark the pre-harvest festival. He said Tsungremmong holds a special place in the cultural heritage of the Ao Nagas. Rooted in the traditions of their forefathers, the festival marks the completion of hard labour in the fields and serves as a time of thanksgiving to the Almighty for the promise of a bountiful harvest. Patton prayed that the festival brings harmony, prosperity, and goodwill to every household in the Ao community and across Nagaland. In a separate message, Phangnon Konyak wished that the “this cherished festival strengthens the bonds of togetherness and brings peace, happiness, and abundant blessings to all.”
Fire guts house in Dimapur
DIMAPUR — An Assam-type house was gutted in a fire that broke out at New Colony, Purana Bazaar, Dimapur, on Friday morning, causing an estimated property loss of around INR 70 lakh. Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Sub-Inspector Neiphretuo of the Central Fire Station said the Fire and Emergency Services received a distress call at around 11:30 a.m. Three fire tenders, along with firefighting personnel, were immediately dispatched to the scene. The blaze was brought under control after about one hour and 20 minutes of firefighting operations. Preliminary findings suggest that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit. The four-room Assam-type house was extensively damaged, with all rooms affected by the blaze. At the time of the incident, the homeowner was reportedly at a neighbour's residence and was unable to salvage any belongings before the fire engulfed the house. No casualties were reported. ASF curbs lifted in Signal Angami
DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, has lifted the restrictions imposed in and around Signal Angami village following the successful completion of surveillance for African Swine Fever (ASF) and confirmation that no fresh cases have been detected. According to a circular issued by the deputy commissioner, the restrictions imposed on May 20, have been withdrawn with immediate effect based on a report from the Chief Veterinary Officer, Dimapur. With the order, the ban on the movement, transportation, sale and slaughter of pigs and pork products has been lifted, allowing normal piggery-related activities to resume. However, farmers have been advised to continue observing standard biosecurity measures and follow advisories issued by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services. The chief veterinary officer has also been directed to continue routine surveillance and report any suspected ASF cases immediately.
Fazl Ali College conducts FDP
DIMAPUR — The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Fazl Ali College organised a two-day faculty development programme (FDP) on “Office procedures and financial administration” on July 30 and the 31st. According to an update from the college, the resource persons for the programme included I Aochuba Pongener, additional director, Treasuries & Account, and Asalie Lese, deputy secretary, Personnel & Administrative Reforms department. The first day commenced with a short opening programme chaired by Watitoshi Ao, assistant professor and HoD, Mathematics, followed by an introductory note addressed by Bendangsenla, IQAC coordinator. Sessions on ‘Financial management and audit’ and ‘Pension: OPS, NPS and UPS’ were conducted with I Aochuba Pongener as the resource person, who presented a detailed structure of the subjects. “The programme aims to strengthen faculty competencies in office administration and institutional governance through practical training on office procedures, file processing, noting and drafting, official communication, record maintenance, financial management, audit and pension systems,” it stated.
