Dimapur, Nov. 13 (EMN): The newlywed couple who brandished automatic weapons at their wedding, and two members of the GPRN/NSCN (NK) who are stated to have allowed such a display, were arrested by the district police authorities following complaints.
However, the married couple were released on a ‘police bail bond,’ the police establishment informed.
The establishment of the commissioner of Dimapur police issued a press release to the media on Wednesday informing about the enforcement.
The police stated: ‘On suo moto cognizance and subsequent verification regarding the case of a married couple posing with arms which was widely circulated in the social media on 13.11.2019 Dimapur police arrested two individuals of GPRN/NSCN (NK) namely (i) Ato Sumi (23 yrs) of the village of Zhekishe, Niuland in Dimapur; Mughaho (28 yrs) of Satakha in Zunheboto for allowing unauthorized display of firearms in contravention to ceasefire ground rules.’
“Further, the married couple were also arrested but were released on police bail bond. This is in connection with a suo moto case registered in Diphupar PS,’ the police stated.
Social media and even some of the major Indian news publication houses had picked up on a viral post earlier during the week showing a newly married couple brandishing guns and posing for photographs. The images had gone viral among social media users.
In a separate case, the police arrested a person, said to be a senior underground functionary named Motsuthung Ngullie, a resident of Notun Bosti in Dimapur, on charges of firing in a public area. He was arrested by the Dimapur police on November 11 for ‘unauthorised use and discharge of firearms in the public area,’ the police stated.
‘Further, one .32 pistol with four live rounds was also seized from his possession. This is in connection with a case registered in West PS,’ the police stated.
