KOHIMA — The newly renovated Kitsubozou Sub-Centre at Kitsubozou, Kohima, was inaugurated by Chief Medical Officer Kohima, Dr. N Leamnyie Konyak, on Saturday. The formal programme was held at the Panchayat Hall, Kitsubozou.
Addressing the event, Dr. Konyak termed the inauguration as not just the opening of a new building but "a momentous milestone" for the colony, stating that it represents a pledge of care, hope for a better future, and a commitment to making affordable healthcare accessible to all.
He said the centre has a long history, recalling that in the late 1990s and early 2000s it functioned from the residence of Dr. Vidilhoullie under the name ‘Kohima Town Dispensary’. It was later shifted and formally inaugurated on March 21, 2007, by the then Principal Director, Dr. V Sekhose.
"Inaugurating this permanent building on May 2, 2026, marks the next great leap in its journey," he said.

He stated that the facility was made possible through financial support from the 15th Finance Commission under the 2021-2022 health grants. He acknowledged the ward panchayat, the ward councillor and HCMC for their support, including the allotment of land.
Dr. Konyak informed that the centre is currently manned by nine staff, comprising one ANM, two DHAIs, five medical attendants and one dresser. He urged them to serve the public with dedication, empathy and honesty. He also called on the community to work hand in hand with the medical staff and take ownership of the centre.
Highlighting the services, he said the sub-centre will provide comprehensive primary health care covering maternal and child health; adolescent care; family planning; management of communicable and non-communicable diseases; outpatient care; mental health screening; basic oral, ophthalmic and ENT services; elderly and palliative care; and emergency services for burns and trauma.
He added that the centre is equipped with 106 essential medicines provided free of cost, at least 12 medical equipment and 14 diagnostic services as per Government of India norms.
On communitisation, he said, following the Nagaland Communitisation of Public Institutions and Services Act, 2022, health services are now a joint responsibility of the government and the community, and urged public participation in supporting and sustaining the facility.
Stating that healthcare is a fundamental right under Article 21, he urged the public to avail the services and stakeholders to protect the institution as a public asset.
A speech was also delivered by the Chairman of Kitsubozou Panchayat, Dzieseneilie Sachu, who acknowledged the medical department and sought continued support for the health institution.
The programme was led by Aziebu Theyo, while a prayer was offered by Pfumeza Pfukri. Earlier, the CMO unveiled the plaque and toured the facilities.
