Diphu, July 28: In a tragic accident a newly married couple from Umkhermi village were electrocuted at Umsopho under Mokoilum Police outpost in West Karbi Anglong at around 8.00 A.M on Thursday. The duo couple identified as Monika Chingthongpi (19) and Olingson Engleng on Thursday morning went to their field (Jhum cultivation) in Umsopho on the way they trampled upon the live electric wire and die on the spot.
The dead bodies were brought to Diphu Civil Hospital for post mortem today. The deceased family informed the media person that, the wife first came into contact followed by her husband who also got electrocuted when he tried to help her, killed them both of them on the spot. The couple were married for three weeks, report added.
Lily Beypi and Wonder Chinthong who accompanied the deceased family today Diphu blamed the Assam State Electricity Board (ASEB) that the duo died due to negligence of the ASEB staffs. “The staffs never visit the villages, and said the electricity supply at the village wa also irregular, sometime they did not supply for a month,” alleged the villager.
Meanwhile, CEM, Tuliram Ronghang has expressed condolences to the deceased family and urged ASEB department to be sincere with their work. He said that they should not repeat the same thing .
