NNN TURA, January 6 A newly born child was found abandoned in a latrine in the colony of Balading in Tura in West Garo Hills (WGH) on Monday, the baby boy was left wrapped in a plastic bag inside the latrine itself and was later rushed to the hospital for emergency care and is said to be getting better.According to information received from the Tura police, a call was made to the police at about 12:30 on Monday by the staff of Maternity and Child Hospital (MCH) after the baby was brought there by locals who made the discovery. He was immediately put on emergency care and his condition is said to have stabilized. The case is being looked into by the Tura Woman’s police. However until the filing of this report no one had come to claim the baby. Meanwhile, upon hearing of the abandonment, residents of Tura and elsewhere have condemned the act of abandoning a newly born child. Noted singer Lucas Marak expressed his sadness over the act and termed it heartless. “What else can one express than shock at such an example of cruel nurturing? There are many children like this who are left to die this way. There may be many reasons put forward to justify it but this is just not done. It is condemnable and it pains me to know there are heartless mothers too,” said Marak. “Every living being loves their own child but this woman does not seem to have a heart worth a hair. I would have hugged the child and cried for what has happened to him,” said another resident, John Marak. However in a huge boost for the future of the child, some people within the region have already expressed their willingness to adopt the new born baby. “We will definitely try and help the baby, even if it means adopting the child. This is truly a very sad act and is really condemnable,” said a resident of North Garo Hills (NGH) who did not want to be named.
