Dimapur, Dec. 28: Around 30 Naga youth arrested on Dec. 23 during a fake call centre bust in Noida’s sector 63 in Uttar Pradesh are almost certain to spend the New Year’s Day inside the Luksar jail, despite attempts to free them.
Following the arrest of the group of Naga youth, Nagaland government officials as well as representatives of Naga Students’ Union (NSU) met the youth on Dec. 26. Thomas Thailu, OSD to the state’s Planning and Coordination department, told Eastern Mirror that he, along with some student leaders, met the youth on Dec. 26.
“Our main concern is to get speedy bail for them; however, they may have to remain in jail for more days as the Surajpur court reopens only on Jan. 1, 2019,” Thailu said.
Stating that some of the youth have complained about health, scarcity of blankets, and water problem, Thailu said that he had met the jailor, Prakash (no surname) and requested him to facilitate the required materials.
“One person came from Dimapur to meet his brother who is also in jail. He went and visited his brother yesterday and got to know that the requested things were made available,” Thailu said.
Mentioning that he had requested the police officials to arrest the masterminds and interrogate the incident further, Thailu added that the Nagaland House, including student bodies, relatives, and well-wishers were there only to facilitate them, and see to it that the arrested persons were not harassed.
