New restrictions come into force in Dimapur, Kohima today

Dimapur, May 4 (EMN): All activities including movement of persons will be suspended in containment zones -- Dimapur, Kohima and surrounding areas -- for seven days starting from tonight at 7 pm.

The state government had on Monday declared Dimapur Municipal Council; Chümoukedima Town Council; colonies and villages along Dimapur-Chümoukedima four-lane road; Kohima Municipal Council and New Capital Complex as containment zones following continuous surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in the state.

In a separate notification issued on Tuesday, the deputy commissioner of Dimapur informed that containment zones in the district include all colonies falling within the 23 wards under the jurisdiction of DMC, all colonies under the jurisdiction of Chümoukedima Town Council, and all colonies/ villages along the Dimapur-Chümoukedima four-lane road.

The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority had earlier directed through an order that all activities would be prohibited from 7 pm on May 5 till May 12 in order to break the chain of Covid transmission.

However, goods-carrying vehicles, healthcare facilities, pharmacies, banks, media houses, gas stations, construction activities, agri and allied activities, officers is various government offices, vendors of essential commodities, public transport and taxis (50% capacity), airport, groceries etc. will be exempted from the restrictions.

In the meantime, the state government has ordered closure of all places of mass gathering including religious places across the state, except for solemnisation of weddings with prior permission of the deputy commissioner. “Any person or group of persons acting in violation of this order shall be deemed to have committed an offence punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code,” the order stated.
