
KOHIMA — A newly constructed building of Government Middle School (GMS) at T Khel in Kohima village was inaugurated by Thavaseelan K, principal director of School Education, on Saturday as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Thavaseelan has highlighted about the functioning of the World Bank funded project NECTAR-Lighthouse being implemented by the department of school department and how the community are participating in the school development with contributions. He has highlighted five key pillars which the department is working including foundational literacy and numeracy; infrastructure physical and digital stressed on the need to ramp up the facilities with the performance incentive grant (PIG).
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]Thavaseelan also informed that the department is emphasising on curriculum, pedagogical and assessment; inclusive education; vocational learning to equip students to be job givers than to be job takers.
He also highlighted the various initiatives been undertaken by the department such as Education Management System (EMS) which is going to be integrated data to help better manage the school ecosystem among others.
The chairman of Kohima Village Council (KVC), Hielievio Solo, in his speech, told the people not to forget the pioneers who have contributed their services and kinds towards the school. He also called upon the teachers to give their best for the students.
Construction committee report was delivered by its convenor, Kelhousinyu Solo, wherein he informed that the school first started in 1930s and was taken over by the government in 1946. He informed that the construction for a new school building was first proposed in 2017 but was halted due to COVID pandemic. He added that that construction started in 2021 through peoples contribution especially from the alumni under the project called “Give back to society.”
The school building has G+4 storeys, principal’s room, staff room, pantry, auditorium and 14 classrooms.
The welcome address was delivered by Dzieseneituo Belho, head teacher of GMS T Khel, while the theme song was presented by Ledilhounuo Sekhose, folk song was presented by T Khel women and a song was also presented Methaneilie Jütakhrie Solo.
The programme was chaired by K Neibou Sekhose, chairman of T Khel council, while an invocation prayer was said by Rev. Kevimese Suohu, senior pastor of Naga Bazaar Baptist Church. It concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mhasisetuo Solo, president of T Khel Students Union.
