DIMAPUR, JULY 3 : With the blessings of the rain, comes a heap of garbage and swelling flood in and around Dimapur, the commercial hub of Nagaland.
When the dream of black topped Dhobinala-Thahekhu road is seen as major progress, recently clogging of drainages and flooding during rainy days have become a common issue in roads linking Dhobinala till Signal-Thahekhu junction.
When the people of the district pray for rain to ease away the heat, the pathetic road conditions caused by the rain has become a negative marking on finding joy with rain.
No group or organization to be blamed but it is highly assumed to be a cause of elevated style of “German technology” that is implemented in making of the ongoing road construction.
All the adjoining approach roads and its corresponding drains are now at a lower level that the main road.
As the flow of water cannot beat the force of gravity water collects on all the lower lying approach roads.
With the water nowhere to go, on days of heavy rains like today the houses on the side of the roads are also inundated.
The road leading to Signal colony from Signal-Thahekhu junction has become one of the dirtiest spot with its recently constructed temporary dumping site under DMC that has almost become the permanent dump site with irregular disposal by the municipal body.
The clogging of waste materials below the elevated road has become a major issue of sanitation blocking the drains from ‘free flow’ after rains.
Looking down from the elevated road, a 10 minute rain is enough to bring down a mini river from Signal-Thahekhu junction till Sham Bazaar.
Capsizing of autos at the curve of Signal-Thahekhu junction towards Signal Colony are some valid proofs of highly elevated roads leaving the adjacent roads meters below.
The Dhobinala-Thahekhu road construction which commenced during the end of last year is in major progress while the Signal road from Signal-Thahekhu junction awaits the “German technology” to reach the colony’s shattered roads.
