New academic building inaugurated at Nagaland University Kohima campus

DIMAPUR — A new academic building for the Department of Education and Department of Teacher Education at Nagaland University (NU) Kohima campus in Meriema was inaugurated on July 14.


An update from NU stated that the Vice Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik inaugurated the building by unveiling a monolith in the presence of Pro Vice Chancellor of Kohima campus, Prof. N Venuh; Pro Vice Chancellor of Medziphema campus, Prof. Dipak Sinha; Registrar Dr. Abemo; deans of schools, finance officer, engineers of the university, heads of departments, faculty members, officers, administrative staff, students and scholars.


The programme was chaired by Prof. Lungsang Zeliang, head of the Education department, who welcomed the gathering and expressed gratitude to the university authorities for their contributions towards the successful completion of the project.


Rukusayi Rhakho, executive engineer of the university, presented a detailed report of the new building and shared the history behind the construction and also highlighted the cost and other details of the building, while Dr. Abemo commended the collaborative efforts behind the construction.


In his address, Prof. Patnaik reflected on the 30-year journey of Nagaland University, acknowledging that while new departments were created over the years, infrastructural growth had lagged behind. He lauded Prof. Buno Zetsuvi for her persistence in pushing for the infrastructural developments in the campus.

Prof. Patnaik also spoke about some of the issues that existed before his tenure and affirmed that development funds are now being effectively utilised. He congratulated all the officials involved for their commitment, mentioning in particular Prof. GT Thong, who recently retired as pro vice chancellor.


Addressing the students, he emphasised the importance of excellence and responsibility, stating firmly that “money is not a problem when it comes to enhancing education.” He insisted that only top-quality infrastructure is acceptable for the institution and stressed the need for a strong sense of belonging among students and faculty members.


He further encouraged the students and scholars to work hard, be sincere and come out with flying colours.


In his speech, Prof. N Venuh has appreciated the vice chancellor for his continued support. He provided a brief history of the project, mentioning that the building had been under construction for eight years and faced several challenges.


He shared about other development activities, including a conference hall and auditorium for the Kohima campus.


He further urged the students and faculty to take care of the facilities and promote positivity, highlighting that negativity has hindered the university’s growth.


It further mentioned that the new building stands as a testament to the university’s ongoing commitment to academic and infrastructural excellence.
