DIMAPUR — The Students’ Council for Social Change (SCSC), a student council body of North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), kicked off its 9th annual sports meet on Thursday on the theme ‘Beyond the game’ at Peace Centre, Chümoukedima, with Veni Vese, the additional deputy commissioner of police, Chümoukedima, as the special guest.
James Phanungkiu, president of SCSC, speaking on the theme, emphasised that games and sports unite people and foster personal development beyond mere physical fitness, according to a press release. He noted that participation in sports teaches essential life skills such as teamwork, communication, and interpersonal relationships.
Vese emphasised the significance of sports and games in the lives of students, asserting that a cohesive team is essential for the success of any sport. He highlighted that through games and sports, individuals learn valuable lessons about both failure and victory—experiences that extend beyond the confines of a classroom.
He encouraged students to set clear goals in life and to pursue them with unwavering determination. Vese stressed the importance of self-discipline in the use of modern gadgets, urging students to harness these tools to enhance their skills and propel their careers forward. Additionally, he urged students to strive for excellence and to make the most of the resources available to them within the institute.
Dr. Fr. C.P. Anto, principal of NEISSR, also delivered a short message about how the three-day sports meet would allow students to develop their personalities and competencies beyond games.
The meet commenced with a flame-lighting ceremony led by the special guest.
