Dimapur, Feb. 8 (EMN): As part of ongoing national peace movement, the final students of Master of Social Work (MSW) from North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) have attended the 5th national peace convention held at Delhi's Gurugram on January 31 and February 1.
Ms Tumchobeni, final year MSW student specialising in peace and conflict transformation studies, spoke on 'Gandhian approach to sustainable development" in the youth panel. In her speech, she questioned the present economic development models for its destructive impacts on indigenous people's lives, cultures, natural environment and ecology.
NEISSR principal Dr. Fr. CP Anto presented on Peace Channel as model for preparing youth as peace agents in transforming violent conflict systems and society towards a culture of peace and nonviolence.
Besides attending the convention, the entire batch of 48 MSW final year students accompanied by faculty members namely Dr. Toli Kiba, Dr. Deben and Ms Sungjemtola Jamir visited Jindal Global University at Sonipat; ISI Delhi, DOORs (NGO), Noida; ISD Delhi and JNU, New Delhi, as part of their study tour.
At the Jindal Global University, students and faculty members attended the ASEAN and Indian higher education leaders' conference on the theme “Achieving research excellence at the university.” Over 60 scholars and students from about 16 ASEAN countries participated in the conference.
In the conference, members have deliberated on the fate of higher education in the globalised world and shared areas of inter-university collaboration for inter-disciplinary studies of present day problems and issues of sustainable development.
Participants of the conference had one-to-one interactions in exploring and networking partnership for inter-university collaborative in interdisciplinary study and exchange programmes within the region over high tea.
Dr. Fr. CP Anto and faculty members had interactions with professors from Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia in exploring opportunities for academic exchange programmes.
In the cultural programme, NEISSRIANS presented 'One in spirit' - a group song customized in local folk tunes to much appreciations of the gathering.
The objectives of the study tour for the MSW final year students was to familiarise with some select advance studies centres, NGOs working in relevant fields of works in social profession at national, regional and international to develop individual career road maps and discover opportunities engagements.
