The master of social work (MSW) students of North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima, undertook an educational tour on community development specialisation to Darjeeling from February 1 to the 10th on the theme “Go green today, save the world tomorrow.”
An update from NEISSR stated that the study tour was undertaken with the objective to know the different NGOs administration and functions to broaden the prospect of learning.
It stated that the students visited seven organisations in Darjeeling town, Siliguri and Bagdogra. The students had the privileged of interacting with seven organisations namely Darjeeling Dioceses Legal Cell (DDLC), Darjeeling Dioceses Social Service Society (DDSSS), Mankind in Action for Rural Growth (MARG), TIEEDI, Sumita Cancer Society, West Bengal Voluntary Health Association (WBVHA) and Child in Need Institute (CINI). It informed that those organizations, with their uniqueness and outreach programmes, are helping the individual and community to grow towards self-sustenance with quality of life.
It stated that interaction with different professionals and experts in different organisations boosted the students' minds and hearts to contribute positively to the communities. It expressed that every community should be given opportunities to develop and progress. It added that the quality of community life could be assessed justly by providing a just means to achieve the just end.
It mentioned that the students learnt the art of administration and various strategies for reaching out to the oppressed, marginalised and exploited people in urban and rural communities. It informed that students have learned the role of organisations in delivering social justice, social service and community awareness on human rights, children and women’s rights, environment protection, human trafficking and sustainable living.
