NEISSR students undertake study tour

North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima, undertook a 10-day tour on peace and conflict transformation studies (PCTS) specialisation from February 1 to the 10th on the theme “Understanding conflicts and human rights for peaceful co-existence.”

An update from the institute informed that a team of 14 trainees, guided by its assistant professor, Elizabeth Pojar, met different organisations in Nagaland, Manipur and Kolkata.

The team met the president of Mao Hoho in Dimapur, members of Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) in Viswema, Manipur North Economic Development Association (MANEDA) in Senapati, Centre for women and Girls (CWG) in Tengnoupal district, Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) in Imphal, Azad Foundation and Missionary of Charity (MOC) in Kolkata.

It stated that the team learned from various organisations about their functions and structures and their application in promoting peace through various means of workshops, trainings and peace events during the course of study tour. The team visited some important sites such as Kangla Fort, King’s Palace, Govindajee Laishang Mamang Temple and IMA market in Manipur and Victoria Memorial in Kolkata. 

In another programme, Master of Social Work (MSW) students of NEISSR undertook an educational tour on youth development specialisation to Guwahati and Shillong from February 1 to 10th on the theme “Explore different social work cultures.”

The objectives of the study were to explore the social work culture in the Northeast region and gain a realistic perspective of the organisations, explore the unique programmes, projects and to enhance professional social work skills. The team comprising 14 students was guided by the assistant professor, Dr. Abel Arüna. 

The students visited different places and training centres and also held interactive session with different organisations and institutions. It stated that students were able to learn about the visions and missions of various organisations implemented by them to improve the prevailing conditions in the society.

Meanwhile, the students have thanked the management, principal, vice principal, faculty and staff for making the educational tour a fruitful learning experience. Dimapur, March 4 (EMN)
