NEISSR 0012Dimapur, May 30: North East Institute of Social Science & Research (NEISSR) organized a valedictory programme for the first batch of Master of Social Work (MSW) on May 28 where SobunenbaLongkumer, Director of Community Education Centre Society (CECS) was the chief guest. Addressing MSW trainees, Longkumer said Nagaland is in need of young, dynamic and committed social workers who are ready to get into the field. Pointing out that the tendency after acquiring professional degree is to look for job which allows sitting in office, he however, told the students that with such tendency the very purpose of doing Master of Social Work Course would be defeated. He advised the students to give priority to make all the amenities available in the rural areas in order to develop the State. He said education should allow a person to do work and also provide avenues for employing other people’. He further congratulated the students and exhorted them to go with faith and trust in God as they continue in their chosen profession.Dr. CP Anto, Principal NEISSR, also congratulated the students for successfully completing the course. ‘We have started together with a dream to set a trend in Nagaland and we have succeeded in being a trend setter. NEISSR is the first Master of Social Work Institute in Nagaland,’ he said. He also exhorted the students to be trustworthy, honest and committed in their work as they start a new chapter in their lives as professionals in different settings. Stating that every student is gifted with a talent, he said the process of developing that talents had been initiated at NEISSR adding it is the prerogative of the students to continue working on developing that skills and talents which had been identified and shaped by the MSW Course. Altogether 43 students would complete the course by the middle of June 2016 with specializations in Community Development (CD), Youth Development (YD) and Peace & Conflict Transformation Studies (PCTS). They would be the first batch of MSW Graduates under the Nagaland University. The outgoing students shared the changes they have undergone in their personal lives, on their attitudes and mentality after joining the MSW course at NEISSR.
