DIMAPUR — The Community Development Forum, North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), organised a legal awareness programme on the theme “Legal awareness for social justice and community empowerment” at BAM Hall, Chümoukedima.

Guest speaker L Pukho Khiamniungan, advocate at Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, in his address, focused on three main topics — women’s rights, children’s rights and consumer rights.

Khiamniungan highlighted that nearly 70% of rights are framed with women in mind, as they are often considered the most disadvantaged section of society.

He stressed the need to uplift women who are victims of domestic violence, which can take many forms, including physical, emotional, and mental abuse, and is a common experience for many women.

The advocate also encouraged the students, reminding them that it is their duty to advocate for these rights.
