DIMAPUR — The North East Institute of Social Sciences & Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima, held its pre- Christmas celebration on November 29 on the theme ‘The gift of togetherness.’

The event, organised by the Students’ Council for Social Change (SCSC), brought together faculty, students, and invited guests, an update from the NEISSR stated.

Delivering the exhortation, Rev. Fr. CP Anto, Principal of NEISSR, commended the SCSC for the “meaningful theme,” noting that it reflects the true spirit of Christmas.

Drawing from the life and ministry of Jesus, he highlighted Christ's example of bringing people together Gentiles, Jews, Samaritans, the marginalised, and the privileged.

He encouraged students to carry forward this message of unity and reconciliation in their homes during the festive season.

Referencing the power of habit and atomic habits, Fr. Anto stressed the importance of cultivating “keystone habits” that foster joy, forgiveness, and strong relationships.

He reminded the gathering that authentic leadership is transformative and called on everyone to rise above ego and division to build a more united society.

Rev. Dr. George Rino, Principal of St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, the guest speaker of the celebration, delivered the Christmas message, centring his message on the theme of divine love and sacrifice.

Reflecting on the book of John, he emphasised that Christmas is ultimately a celebration of God’s unconditional love.

“Through a compelling story of a king questioning God’s act of sending His son, he illustrated that true love expresses itself through sacrifice.”

Rev. Rino also drew attention to the biblical scene of Mary and Joseph finding no room at the inn, urging the audience to “make room in their hearts” for Jesus amid the busyness of the season.

He encouraged personal reflection, spiritual readiness, and the practice of compassion, gratitude, and faith.

The programme featured an invocation by Barnic Gangmei, assistant professor; a special musical presentation by the Jordan Family; a reflection on ‘What Christmas means to me’by Ashela Teresa from Peace Channel; remarks from student leaders; and a vote of thanks delivered by Tengitsula.

The celebration concluded with a benediction by Numpuule Zeliang, assistant professor.

“The event successfully captured the essence of Christmas, reinforcing the message of togetherness and unity within the NEISSR community,” the update stated.
