DIMAPUR — The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) celebrated World Social Work Day on Tuesday at its premises in Chümoukedima.
The institute stated in a press release that social workers play a critical role in promoting social inclusion, equity, and sustainable development by collaborating with individuals, families, communities, and organisations to address their needs and enhance their well-being.
“This day provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress made in social work and identify areas where more needs to be done,” it read.
Themed "Buen vivir: shared future for transformative change," it stressed the importance of social workers adopting innovative, community-led approaches grounded in indigenous wisdom and harmonious coexistence with nature.
The programme was conducted by the Master of Social Work (MSW), Semester II students, with Sushil Daimary, also an MSW Semester II student, serving as the chairperson. A debate was organised on the topic 'ILP in Nagaland’.
Fr. Khing, vice principal of NEISSR, urged students to embrace transformative change, stating that every individual bears the responsibility for it as they shape the future.
He emphasised the importance of paving the way for justice, equality, respect, and dignity of life for future generations and stressed that social workers have a significant role in positively influencing society.
