DIMAPUR — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday expressed strong dissatisfaction over the ongoing construction work on National Highway-29 (NH-29), undertaken by the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).


Speaking to reporters after the inauguration of Nagaland Police mess facilities in Chümoukedima, Rio said that the work is not being executed scientifically and raised concerns about the capability of the contractors involved.


He went on to state that the government is unhappy with the current state of the project.

Rio further informed that after the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, he plans to take the matter directly to the Ministry concerned in Delhi.


He said he would be carrying all relevant documents and reports to engage in a serious discussion and press for accountability and corrective measures.

Meanwhile, addressing questions regarding the ongoing eviction drive against illegal immigrants in Assam and the potential spill over effects at the border, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton said that the state government is closely monitoring the situation.

Patton confirmed that he has already held discussions with the commissioner of police and the director general of police regarding preventive measures.


He assured that additional security personnel will be deployed to all sensitive areas along the Assam-Nagaland border to ensure strict surveillance and control.
