Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio urged Nagas to promote peace as he attended the 14th World War II Peace Rally at Kisama in Kohima.

KOHIMA — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday urged Nagas to continue advocating peace both within the state and across the world as he attended the 14th World War II Peace Rally at the WWII Museum Complex in Kisama.
Speaking at the programme, Rio said the rally served as a reaffirmation of the people’s commitment to live in peace, noting that while many around the world desire peace, they continue to suffer due to conflict and war.
Organised by the Nagaland Adventure and Motor Sports Association (NAMSA) in partnership with the Tourism department, this year’s rally featured 27 participating vehicles.
Rio said the peace rally, now in its 14th edition, was a reminder of the history and the Battle of Kohima, which continues to evoke both painful and significant memories. He said the event honoured the sacrifices of those who fought, died or suffered during the war, and encouraged participants to continue promoting peace.
He added that the display of vintage vehicles and demonstrations symbolised the continuing effort to preserve history and honour those who lost their lives. He also appreciated the Nagaland Flatfenders Club for its commitment and enthusiasm in supporting the rally each year, urging them to remain partners in promoting Nagaland and advocating for peace.
Rally commander TJ Longkumer, in his introductory remarks, spoke about the Battle of Kohima and said the rally team from Dimapur began their journey at 7 am, stopping at Garrison Hill and the War Cemetery to lay wreaths and pay tribute to fallen Allied soldiers.

He recalled that the rally began in 2011 based on the vision of Rio, who wished to ensure that the history of Kohima was never forgotten. Longkumer noted that the participating vehicles symbolised history, with six of them being actual WWII-era vehicles. He added that all 27 vehicles completed the route and expressed hope that more vehicles would join next year in the spirit of peace.
Prizes were awarded to the best weaponry team, best maintained vehicle and most original vehicle.
