The former minister for roads and bridges, Kuzholuzo Nienu, is convinced that the main road in Phek town is ‘one of the best roads in Nagaland.’ The politician lauded the district’s authorities for that apparently ‘best road,’ during a meeting of the Phek development board.
The monthly meeting of the Phek District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) for the month of April was conducted on April 13 in Phek town. Parliamentary Secretary for Higher & Technical Education Deo Nukhu presided over the meeting
Addressing the event, the member of the state assembly Kuzholuzo Nienu representing 19th assembly constituency congratulated the district administration, the district police and the PWD, R&B department ‘for being able to make the Phek town road to become one of the best roads in the state.’
Nienu called upon the other officers in the district to come out of sectarian mindsets and urged them to render best efforts toward the development of Phek district. The former health and roads minister also announced a local sports tournament in the early part of 2017 in the district headquarter. For the sports event, various committees have been constituted, it was informed. A one-time “contribution” from government employees in Phek district will be “collected.” The “contribution”, as announced in the meeting was a) gazette officers at Rs. 2000, semi-gazette workers at Rs. 500, grade-III workers at Rs. 300, and grade-IV workers at Rs. 200.
The politicians has appealed to all the members to cooperate as “this is one time event for the district in 11 eleven years.”
The speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Chotisuh Sazo encouraged all the heads of offices in the district to remain proactive in implementing the policies and programme of the government. The officials are the ears and eyes of the government, he said.
The politician also stressed on the importance of agriculture. Sazo said that besides ‘paddy cultivation,’ he called upon the farmers to take up cash crops, and livestock production. They will improve their economic livelihood, he explained.
Parliamentary Secretary for Higher & Technical Education Deo Nukhu called upon the members of the board to motivate the students ‘ community to take up science ‘as the state is likely to get more seats in engineering course.’
While reviewing the minutes of the previous broad meeting, District Project Officer Phek of N Kehie, presented a report of his department’s activities. The objective of the department is to conserve and develop natural resources, he said. It also addressed issues of land degradation ‘with a vision to eradicate poverty,’ he explained.
In other matters, the board recommended the following schools to the government for upgrade: government high school of Phusachodu to higher secondary, government middle school of Rukizu, Pfutsero, to high school.
The annual report of the Phek DPDB was presented to the members by DPO of Phek, Kezungupe Tsuhah. The board has had twelve meetings during which 17 departments presented reports of their activities. The board made 38 recommendations out of which three recommendations, besides a grant-in-aid, were approved or implemented by the government. Also, the attendance record of all the members of the board for the year was circulated to the members.
